First Friday Writing for Randos: Write it on your heart.

{First Friday Writings for Randos - A monthly post that features pieces from other writers that touch some facet of the Randonneuring experience, even if that was not the author's intent. It's stuff that's best read out loud - slowly.} This month it's a poem from

Ralph Waldo Emerson
Collected Poems and Translations

Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.

Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.

― Ralph Waldo Emerson

  2. Lovely. Perfect reminder for people like me who are prone to worry just that little bit more than "necessary". I made a commitment to myself (not a NY resolution) to live in the moment more, to compartmentalize where possible/necessary and just get on with things. I'm printing this and putting on the fridge door. Thank you!
