Friday Writings for Randos - Rule 9

{Friday Writings for Randos - A weekly post that features pieces from other writers that touch some facet of the Randonneuring experience, even if that was not the author's intent. It's stuff that's best read out loud - slowly.} This week it's:

If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass.
Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards.
Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face.
This is a rider who loves the work.

  1. Anytime I think about bad weather riding it always reminds me of the 2010 edition of the Cranbury 200k. The first half was pretty much solid rain, while the second half was light to misty. I had 3 flats and I got lost before the 3rd controle. About two miles from the finish I was pumping air to my rear tire which had a slow leak that was leaking faster between pumping air and was totally flat when we arrive at the final controle. But for some reason I have good memories of that ride!
