Central Florida 300k - Randonnuering as destination travel

A brief trip south for a taste of summer in the midst of winter.

Five of us from NJ decided to travel south to Florida for a mid-winter brevet. Two flew. Three of us drove over 17 hours to get to Indian Harbor Beach on the Space Coast and the 300K brevet hosted by the Central Florida Randonneurs.

At the first control, we heard reports that the lead group of Randonneurs were blazing through the course at speeds exceeding 20 mph. We five took a different approach, taking in the sights, enjoying the day, finishing in 16.5 hours. Here is some of what we saw along the way.

Thanks to Tim Bol and the Florida Randos for hosting and thanks to my riding companions for a great trip.

  1. More of a fast flat course and no significant wind. We actually rode a moderate pace for the most part.
